  • villain and hero

END OF UNIT ASSESSMENT

 1. medium zone

 2. top hat, long trench coat, facial expressions

 3. this will make the audience feel proud because he is a ex - military solider, the audience will also feel quiet disturbed because the war is just over and things for example weapons are still around making the audience feel disturbed, the bunkers and the air felid is history and well known to the audience this makes them feel a bit of PTSD and anxious but also relived that the war is now over. We are all proud that he is still alive and healthy making everyone feel happier and calm.

4.she is able to have her own fights for example when the victor holds her a gunpoint she is able to fight and stand up for self, she is very calm i know this because she leans against the wall and smirks. Emma peel also makes the Steed get the creamer out of the kitchen when he asks, showing that Emma isn't meant to just work for men and work in the kitchen. Emma Peel teaches Steed in the classroom as she stands up he has to sit down on a tiny chair as Emma uses a pointer to teach him. Emma lastly can keep up with Steed when they fence, she wont back down and is able to keep on going.

5. pov - the audience sees what the camera sees.

6. Emma peel is standing up and teaching Steed which shoes gender role as the stereotypical way is that Emma would be sitting down and be taught by a man instead its the other way around.

7. Emma peel has travelled a lot, she knows her stuff and is not scared .

8. it is voice over this shows that there is voices in the background that is related to the shot that the camera is on. Diegetic is when the voice hasn't been edited in and is able to see people talking or the voice.  Non diegetic because it cant be heard and not been seen that the voice by the characters

MUSIC VIDEOS: MUSIC LANGUAGE

Explain how music videos use media language to promote their artists. Refer to the pair of music videos you have studied from the list below in your answer.

Our music videos are Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag Avril Lavigne Sk8ter Boi

HOW TO ANSWER: Media language points to consider:

the prioritising of the star / the group; the privileging of the star / the groups in the frame

authenticating the star's performance / the band's performance to show their skills

the use of close ups; lip syncing to camera; eye contact with the audience

To promote the main star, and sell the person you want to be the star. You need to make sure they are the centre of attention and focused on the most, this is because the audience will be most focused on the person who they see the most, to have the main star in the film shots the most will be very recognised to everyone. Eye contact really draws in the audience and captures the attention on everyone. Eye contacts is s sense of being serious and wanting the audience it be captured and be focused on. Avril Lavigne is promoted because you can see her lip syncing and making eye contact shows the audience altherenty.

MUSIC MAGANZINE: MEDIA LANGAUGE

Look carefully at the front covers of MOJO and RNR magazines.

QUESTION: How far do MOJO and RNR use different media language to create different connotations(CONNOTATION meaning: an idea or quality that a word makes you think about in addition to its meaning.)

Answer on your blog. This is a high-value question and should take all lesson to answer. You can use the class blog search engine for more examples of how to analyse music magazines.

In your answer you should have 2 paragraphs:

  • analyse the media language in MOJO and RNR magazine. 'Media language' includes the placement of the main image, the type of photography, lighting, colours, fonts, how busy or restrained the cover is, the layout (such as alignment to the margins), how serious or playful
  • make judgements and draw conclusions about how far the media language is used differently in both extracts to create different connotations. Are there similarities in both covers? What sorts of audiences are they targeting? You could think about MOJO's rock aesthetic of living loud and dangerously compared to RNR's folk, rock, blues vibe.

In MOJO the colours that have been used are very bright, electric and lively. The colour neon represses a bright colour meaning there happy and solid on their feet. The colour contrast is neat because on Dave Grohl has the same colours as the font. But the cover is very busy as the text sizes are larger than others and different shades of colours as well. Dave Grohl is repented as aggressive and in your face this is because he is crouched down and ready to pounce. The lighting is bright and very well lit in the RNR magazine Christy Moore is the big picture/ the main splash of the magazine cover. He has a small little smile on his face representing a calm vibe. His eyes are softly placed as they are, making him come across as a pleasant and self-controlled. The photo used of Christy is taken in casual lighting, with a background colour of a neutral brown. His face isn't right in the middle but is slightly positioned on the right side of the magazine, avoiding the writing. The cover itself is quite calm, there's not too much over lapping and there's a lot of space left on the cover that could be filled. Its restrained and there isnt writing in unusual places, its all written around the big picture of the cover. All the writing is distanced from the margin making it look well arranged, although the "free CD" promotional offer overlaps off the edge as well as the text box "over 300 reviews". It gives off a serious vibe as the colours are toned down and contains no vibrancy. The main colours are white, as we see on the text of the writing, which is in the font san serif, and brown colours on the CD and background. Whereas In the MOJO cover we see the main splash as a member from the band "FOO FIGHTERS" name Dave Grohl. He is presented as a hyped up male, he looks like he's got a lot of energy and he's struggling to hold it in. His mouth is open and his teeth a gritting together which shows us the power he holds in the rock and roll genre. His eyebrow is raised and his eyes are wide open, showing us the liveliness he gives off. The colour of the background, which is blue, contrasts with his shirt and the writing "FOO FIGHTERS" which is red and white. The cover itself isn't practically too busy with the layout, although its much more detailed than RNR. A couple things that overlap the cover, they conclude of the promotion and the puff.

CUFFS: REAL LIFE

How far does the extract try to create a sense that it is portraying 'real life'.

The extract attempts to show the sense of real life, by showing the audience that the police officers have a social life. This is seen when Donna, Jake, Lino and Brian are eating their lunch in a canteen. This is seen as a everyday in real life, showing that police are normal people in the real world, when they take a break from their job.

Cuffs also has a lot of digestion sounds for example, talking, sounds of the public, digger, moving cars, the police radio. Digestion sounds shows the audience that Cuffs is seen as a "real life" and it shown to be more true and real. Digestion sound is when sound happens in day to day life and not edited in after the scenes have been filmed.
